John Balestriere was been chosen by the New York State Bar Association to lead a panel discussion on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. John and three practicing attorneys – Vaughn Buffalo, Cliff Ennico, and Michael Yonker – gave presentations on the topic of representing entrepreneurial businesses. The event also included presentations on representing entrepreneurs in litigation, key provisions of operating agreements, corporate shareholders’ and LLC operating agreements, and commercial leasing for small businesses.

John’s presentation dealt with Representing Entrepreneurs in Litigation. Interacting as a lawyer with an “entrepreneurial” company (i.e. a small business) differs greatly from interacting with more traditional corporate clients. Entrepreneurs are more risk-taking, often more creative, and usually very concerned with keepings costs down. Given these differences, attorneys representing entrepreneurs in litigation must approach the relationship in a unique way. John’s presentation will discuss the particular issues brought on by representing entrepreneurs in litigation and ways of optimizing the relationship between attorney and client.
